Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Dental Cleaning: Perform dental cleanings and remove plaque, tartar, and stains from patients' teeth using specialized tools and equipment.
- Oral Examinations: Assist the dentist by conducting preliminary oral examinations, assessing patients' oral health conditions, and documenting findings.
- X-rays: Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) to aid in the diagnosis of oral diseases or conditions.
- Dental Treatments: Administer fluoride treatments, apply sealants, and provide teeth polishing to prevent tooth decay and protect teeth from cavities.
- Periodontal Care: Perform periodontal charting, scaling, and root planing to treat gum diseases and maintain gum health.
- Patient Education: Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, including brushing, flossing, and nutrition, and provide personalized oral health instructions.
- Dental Health Promotion: Assist in organizing and implementing oral health promotion programs and events in the community to raise awareness and promote good dental hygiene practices.
- Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate patient records, including dental charts, treatment plans, and progress notes.
- Infection Control: Follow strict infection control protocols, including sterilizing instruments, disinfecting surfaces, and maintaining a clean and safe environment.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with the dental team, including dentists, dental assistants, and administrative staff, to ensure coordinated and efficient patient care.
- Continuing Education: Stay updated on the latest advancements in dental hygiene techniques, tools, and regulations through continuing education and professional development activities.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Education: Completion of an accredited dental hygiene program and possession of a dental hygiene license issued by the appropriate regulatory body.
- Clinical Skills: Proficient in performing dental cleanings, taking and developing dental radiographs, and administering preventive treatments.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of oral anatomy, dental diseases, and oral health promotion.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively educate and communicate with patients of all ages.
- Attention to Detail: Keen attention to detail to accurately assess oral health conditions and maintain thorough patient records.
